Mazda made two series of transmissions that we use in our MX's. MX-3, MX-6, 626, Miatas, Escort GT, Capri's and.... All use Either and F or G series transmission (I'll include the years when I know for sure)
They coded them like this
G25M-RG - Series.
2 - Its really G2, for the next gen of the G.
5 - 5 speed, plus reverse.
M - Manual. You move the stick.
R - Remote. You move the stick from inside the cabin.
If I say OBDI or OBDII I am refering to the On Board Diagnostic System, which is related to the year of the car.
This crossover happened somewhere between 95 and 96
OBDI means 95 or earlier
OBDII means 94 or later

F5M-R is older than the
F25M-R. It was designed for the lower powered models using the B series engines. Reverse was not synchronized.

I know somewhere between 93-94 they changed over to the
F25M-R, can anyone clarify? people with SOHC/DOHC MX's that are 93-94, can you check for me? That would be awesome

F25M-RThis is the seccond generation of the F series transmission. Introduced sometime between 93 and 94 (clarify, anyone?)
Also, this featured synchromesh for reverse, which the earlier generation was denied. (maybe use htis tidbit to decide which tranny you have?)
